Assessments

Comprehensive educational assessment North Strathfield
Understanding the learner behind the results.
Educational assessments for growth and understanding
Educational assessments for children and adolescents aim to build a clearer picture of how a student learns. They're designed to offer insight into their strengths, needs, and the factors that shape their academic experiences.
At PsychWell, we look beyond academic results to understand the whole learner; how they think, feel, and engage with the world around them. Using science-informed assessment tools, we provide personalised guidance that supports both well-being and academic progress.

Cognitive assessments
(WISC-V)
Achievement assessments
(WIAT-III)
What educational assessments look for
These assessments may look at:
- Cognitive skills such as reasoning, memory, and processing speed
- Academic abilities in reading, writing, and maths
- Learning behaviours like focus and problem-solving
- Processing patterns that may influence how a child learns
- Strengths and areas where extra support may be helpful
What an educational assessment involves
It may be helpful to understand whether ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, or giftedness may be relevant to your child’s learning before committing to a full diagnostic assessment.
At PsychWell, we have designed our process to be staged and transparent, helping families to potentially feel informed and confident throughout, without unnecessary cost or overwhelm.

Who can access our assessments
Our educational and cognitive assessments are available for children, adolescents, and adults, with tools selected to suit each person's age and developmental stage.
For young people aged six to 16, the WISC-V may be used to gain a clearer understanding of cognitive abilities. The WIAT-III is designed to assess academic skills across a broad age range, from childhood through to adulthood.
Post-assessment support
Your educational assessment is just one step in understanding learning needs.
An educational assessment is just one part of building a clearer understanding of learning needs. Optional follow-up sessions are available to explore results and consider what they may mean for day-to-day learning. Ongoing therapy is also available for those who feel further support would be beneficial.

Frequently asked questions about educational assessments
What is the distinction between cognitive and achievement assessments?
Cognitive assessments explore how a person thinks, reasons, and processes information. Achievement assessments focus on academic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics.
How much time do the assessments involve?
Most assessments take a few hours across one or two sessions. This allows enough time for a thoughtful and developmentally informed process.
Are the assessment reports suitable for use by schools and allied health professionals?
Yes. Reports produced through our assessment process are recognised by schools and other allied health or educational professionals, and may help guide relevant support.
Does the assessment come with a full written report and recommendations?
Yes. A clear, personalised written report is provided, including recommendations designed to support learning and well-being.
Do you offer assessments for giftedness or learning disorders?
Yes. Our assessments are designed to explore learning strengths, giftedness, and potential learning disorders, helping to build a clearer understanding of each learner’s individual needs.
