ADHD Assessments to Support Life and Learning
At PsychWell, our ADHD assessments are available for children and adults. Whether you're considering an assessment for yourself or your child, we aim to help you build a clearer picture of how attention, focus, and everyday behaviours may be shaping life at home, at school, or at work.
Through guided conversations, age-appropriate testing, and insights from those who know you or your child best, we aim to build a clear picture of strengths and support needs, giving you clarity and practical direction for what comes next.
What an ADHD Assessment Involves
Wouldn’t it help to gain some clarity around whether ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, or giftedness may be relevant before committing to a full diagnostic assessment?
Our process is designed to be thoughtful, staged, and transparent, helping families feel informed at every step, without unnecessary cost or overwhelm.
Discovery Call
A short, relaxed conversation to understand concerns, answer questions, and work out whether an assessment pathway may be suitable.
Initial Screener Session
A detailed session that includes screening measures, symptom evaluation, and discussion. This step helps clarify whether a full assessment may be indicated.
Comprehensive Assessment
This stage includes a clinical interview and formal comprehensive assessments. Findings are integrated into a detailed written report.
Feedback Session
A dedicated session to go through results, offer clear answers, and discuss practical recommendations and the steps ahead.
This structured approach aims to ensure that families receive professional guidance early and only proceed to full assessment when appropriate, supporting informed decision-making and meaningful outcomes.

Common ADHD Assessment Questions Answered
What types of psychologists are on your team?
At PsychWell, our team is made up of experienced senior, clinical, educational, and developmental psychologists, who aim to provide thoughtful, evidence-informed care tailored to each person’s needs.
How long does the ADHD assessment process take?
An ADHD assessment generally takes a few hours, covering an initial consultation, a clinical interview, and comprehensive questionnaires. This gives us time to develop a clear and compassionate understanding of your cognitive profile, executive functioning, and daily experiences.
Is a referral needed to book an assessment?
You don’t need a GP referral to book an assessment with our psychology clinic, though some people prefer to involve their GP or psychiatrist as part of their broader mental health planning.
What information do you need from parents or teachers?
We may draw on insights from parents, teachers, or caregivers to understand developmental milestones, attention issues, impulse control, time management, and environmental factors that may influence a young person’s life at home or school.
How reliable are ADHD assessments for teenagers or adults?
When conducted by experienced clinical psychologists, ADHD assessments for teenagers and adults offer reliable insight into ADHD symptoms and attention span. They also explore executive functioning and how ADHD may affect different areas of a person’s life.
Will the report be accepted by schools, GPs, or psychiatrists?
Yes. Our reports are recognised across Australia by schools, GPs, psychiatrists, and other services, offering clear guidance on personalised treatment plans and therapy options, adult ADHD coaching, and ongoing management, as needed.
What treatment options are available for ADHD?
After an ADHD diagnosis, it’s common to wonder what treatment may look like. Options vary depending on each person and may include:
- Psychological support
- Cognitive training
- ADHD coaching
- Therapy
Some clients, including adults with ADHD, may also explore medication or medication management with a GP or psychiatrist.
What's the difference between a neurodevelopmental screener and a diagnostic assessment?
Our comprehensive initial consultation includes a neurodevelopmental screener, which helps identify whether your experiences and symptoms may be consistent with ADHD. While a screener does not provide a formal diagnosis, it helps determine whether a full assessment is recommended.
A full diagnostic assessment, on the other hand, involves a comprehensive evaluation, including a detailed clinical interview, comprehensive tests, and a review of developmental, educational, and functional history. Cognitive or executive function testing may also be included, depending on presentation, with findings compiled into a detailed written report.
Why may a full report be helpful?
A full diagnostic report can provide:
- A formal diagnosis (where relevant criteria are met)
- Clear documentation outlining strengths, challenges, and functional impacts
- Evidence for NDIS, workplace, or educational support
- Practical, personalised recommendations for strategies, treatment, or the steps ahead
A full assessment ensures you have a clear understanding of your needs and the support that may help you thrive.
