Assessments
ADHD Assessments to Support Life and Learning
At PsychWell, our ADHD assessments are available for children and adults. Whether you're considering an assessment for yourself or your child, we aim to help you build a clearer picture of how attention, focus, and everyday behaviours may be shaping life at home, at school, or at work.
Through guided conversations, age-appropriate testing, and insights gathered from those who know you or your child best, we aim to form a clear picture of strengths and support needs, helping provide clarity and practical direction for the next steps.
What to Expect from an ADHD Assessment
It may be helpful to gain a clearer understanding of whether ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, or giftedness could be relevant before moving forward with a full diagnostic assessment.
We’ve designed our process to be thoughtful, staged, and transparent, so families may feel informed throughout, without unnecessary cost or overwhelm.
Discovery Call
A short, relaxed conversation to understand concerns, answer questions, and work out whether an assessment pathway may be suitable.
Initial Screener Session
A detailed session involving screening measures, symptom evaluation, and discussion, helping to clarify whether a full assessment may be indicated.
Comprehensive Assessment
This stage involves a clinical interview and formal comprehensive assessments, with all findings compiled into either a diagnostic letter or a comprehensive diagnostic report, both of which provide clear diagnostic conclusions and practical next steps.
Feedback Session
A dedicated session to go through results, offer clear answers, and discuss practical recommendations and the steps ahead.
This structured approach ensures that families receive professional guidance early and only proceed to full assessment when it is appropriate, supporting informed decision-making and meaningful outcomes.
Who We Work With
At PsychWell, we offer considered assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. With a tailored approach to each ADHD assessment, we aim to support you in gaining an accurate diagnosis, understanding your experiences, and developing strategies that may support your well-being.
Signs and Behaviours We Look For

- Difficulty paying attention
- Easily distracted
- Emotional dysregulation
- Disorganisation
- Losing track of time
- Restlessness or fidgeting
- Impulsivity and poor self-control

Clinical Interviews
A conversation that helps us understand your experiences, needs, and everyday patterns, including taking a developmental and psychosocial history.
Questionnaires and Scales
Questions that gather insights from you and those who know you well.
Cognitive and Achievement Testing

Frequently Asked ADHD Assessment Questions
What types of psychologists are on your team?
At PsychWell, our team includes experienced senior, clinical, educational, and developmental psychologists who aim to provide thoughtful, evidence-informed care tailored to each person’s individual needs.
How long does an ADHD assessment take?
An ADHD assessment usually takes a few hours, including an initial consultation, a clinical interview, and comprehensive questionnaires. This allows time to build a clear and compassionate understanding of your cognitive profile, executive functioning, and daily experiences.
Do I need a GP referral to book an assessment?
No GP referral is needed to book an assessment at our psychology clinic. However, some people choose to involve their GP or psychiatrist as part of their wider mental health planning.
What do you need to know from parents or teachers?
Insights may be gathered from parents, teachers, or caregivers to understand developmental milestones, attention issues, impulse control, time management, and environmental factors that may shape a young person’s life at home or school.
How accurate is an ADHD assessment for teenagers or adults?
ADHD assessments for teenagers and adults, when conducted by experienced clinical psychologists, offer reliable insight into ADHD symptoms and attention span, and explore executive functioning and how ADHD may affect different areas of a person’s life.
Will the report be accepted by schools, GPs, or psychiatrists?
Yes. Our reports are recognised by schools, GPs, psychiatrists, and other services across Australia. They offer clear guidance on personalised treatment plans and therapy options, adult ADHD coaching, and ongoing management, as needed.
What ADHD treatment options are there?
After an ADHD diagnosis, it’s common to wonder what treatment may look like. Options vary depending on each person and may include:
- Psychological support
- Cognitive training
- ADHD coaching
- Therapy
Some clients, including adults with ADHD, may also explore medication or medication management with a GP or psychiatrist.
What's the difference between a neurodevelopmental screener and a diagnostic assessment?
Our comprehensive initial consultation includes a neurodevelopmental screener, which helps identify whether your experiences and symptoms may be consistent with ADHD. While a screener does not provide a formal diagnosis, it helps determine whether a full assessment is recommended.
A full diagnostic assessment, by comparison, is a comprehensive evaluation that includes a detailed clinical interview, comprehensive tests, and a review of developmental, educational, and functional history. Depending on the presentation, it may also include cognitive or executive function testing, with findings then compiled into a detailed written report.
Why may a full report be useful?
A full diagnostic report can provide:
- A formal diagnosis, where criteria are met
- Clear documentation of strengths, challenges, and how they impact daily functioning
- Supporting evidence for NDIS, workplace, or educational support
- Practical, tailored recommendations for strategies, treatment, or next steps
A full assessment ensures you have a clear understanding of your needs and the support that may help you thrive.
