Assessments
Understanding autism to support daily life and personal growth.
At PsychWell, we provide autism assessments for children and adults. These assessments are intended to help you develop a clearer understanding of how communication, social interaction, and behaviour patterns influence everyday life.
What is involved in an autism assessment?
Gaining clarity about whether ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, or giftedness may be relevant before committing to a full diagnostic assessment can be a valuable first step.
At PsychWell, we have designed our process to be considered, staged, and transparent, so that families may feel well-informed and confident throughout each step, without unnecessary cost or stress.
Discovery call
A brief, no-pressure conversation to understand concerns, answer questions, and determine whether an assessment pathway may be appropriate.
Initial consultation
A considered clinical session involving screening measures, observation, and collaborative discussion. This step provides greater clarity around whether a full assessment may be recommended.
Comprehensive assessment
This stage involves a clinical interview alongside formal standardised assessments. All findings are brought together into a comprehensive written report.
Feedback Session
A dedicated session to explain results, provide clear answers, and discuss practical recommendations and next steps.
Who our assessments are for
We offer Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for children, adolescents, and adults, encompassing comprehensive autism assessments for toddlers, school-aged children, teenagers, and adults. Every assessment is uniquely tailored to the individual, taking into account their developmental stage, strengths, challenges, and everyday functioning.
Our psychologists provide support to individuals and families pursuing a clear, evidence-based autism assessment, regardless of whether concerns centre on communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, learning differences, or sensory sensitivities.
If you are thinking about an autism assessment for yourself or your child, please feel welcome to reach out to our clinic whenever you feel ready.
What signs and behaviours we take into account
Autism can look different from one person to the next, with behaviours varying across children, adolescents, and adults. Some of the signs that may be observed include:
- Repetitive or comforting behaviours
- Limited or reduced eye contact
- Subtle or limited facial expressions
- Challenges in interpreting social cues
- A strong preference for routines
- Feeling overwhelmed in noisy settings
