Assessments
ADHD Assessments for Life and Learning
At PsychWell, we offer ADHD assessments designed for both children and adults. Whether the assessment is for you or your child, our aim is to help you gain a clearer understanding of how attention, focus, and everyday behaviours may be influencing life at home, at school, or in the workplace.
Through guided conversations, age-appropriate testing, and insights gathered from those who know you or your child best, we aim to form a clear picture of strengths and support needs, helping provide clarity and practical direction for the next steps.
What an ADHD Assessment Involves
Wouldn’t it be helpful to gain clarity about whether ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, or giftedness may be relevant before committing to a full diagnostic assessment?
We’ve designed our process to be thoughtful, staged, and transparent, so families may feel informed throughout, without unnecessary cost or overwhelm.
Discovery Call
A brief, no-pressure conversation to understand your concerns, answer any questions, and determine whether an assessment pathway may be appropriate.
Initial Screener Session
A detailed session covering screening measures, symptom evaluation, and discussion, designed to help clarify whether a full assessment may be indicated.
Comprehensive Assessment
This stage involves a clinical interview and formal comprehensive assessments, with all findings compiled into either a diagnostic letter or a comprehensive diagnostic report, both of which provide clear diagnostic conclusions and practical next steps.
Feedback Session
A dedicated session to explain results, provide clear answers, and discuss practical recommendations and next steps.
This structured approach is designed to help families receive professional guidance early and only proceed to full assessment when it is appropriate, supporting informed decision-making and meaningful outcomes.

Your ADHD Assessment Questions Answered
What psychologists make up your team?
Our team at PsychWell includes experienced senior, clinical, educational, and developmental psychologists, who aim to offer thoughtful, evidence-informed care tailored to each individual’s needs.
How long does the ADHD assessment process take?
An ADHD assessment generally takes a few hours, covering an initial consultation, a clinical interview, and comprehensive questionnaires. This gives us time to develop a clear and compassionate understanding of your cognitive profile, executive functioning, and daily experiences.
Is a referral needed to book an assessment?
You don’t need a GP referral to book an assessment at our psychology clinic. However, some people choose to involve their GP or psychiatrist as part of their broader mental health planning.
What input do you need from parents or teachers?
We may gather insights from parents, teachers, or caregivers to understand developmental milestones, attention issues, impulse control, time management, and environmental factors that may shape a young person’s life at home or school.
How accurate is an ADHD assessment for teenagers or adults?
When conducted by experienced clinical psychologists, ADHD assessments for teenagers and adults offer reliable insight into ADHD symptoms and attention span, while also exploring executive functioning and how ADHD may affect different areas of a person’s life.
Will my report be recognised by schools, GPs, or psychiatrists?
Yes. Our reports are recognised by schools, GPs, psychiatrists, and other services across Australia, offering clear guidance on personalised treatment plans and therapy options, adult ADHD coaching, and ongoing management, as needed.
What are the options for treating ADHD?
Following an ADHD diagnosis, it’s natural to wonder what treatment may involve. Options vary depending on the individual and may include:
- Psychological support
- Cognitive training
- ADHD coaching
- Therapy
Some clients, including adults with ADHD, may also explore medication or medication management with a GP or psychiatrist.
What is the difference between a neurodevelopmental screener and a diagnostic assessment?
A neurodevelopmental screener forms part of our comprehensive initial consultation and helps identify whether your experiences and symptoms may be consistent with ADHD. While it does not provide a formal diagnosis, it helps determine whether a full assessment may be recommended.
A full diagnostic assessment, on the other hand, is a comprehensive evaluation. It includes a detailed clinical interview, comprehensive tests, and a review of developmental, educational, and functional history. Depending on the presentation, it may also include cognitive or executive function testing. The findings are then compiled into a detailed written report.
Why may a full report be helpful?
A full diagnostic report offers:
- A formal diagnosis (if criteria are met)
- Clear documentation of strengths, challenges, and functional impacts
- Evidence to support NDIS, workplace, or educational needs
- Practical, tailored recommendations for strategies, treatment, or next steps
A full assessment is designed to help you gain a clear understanding of your needs and the support that may benefit you.
