ADHD Assessments for Everyday Life and Learning
At PsychWell, we offer ADHD assessments designed for both children and adults. Whether the assessment is for you or your child, our aim is to help you gain a clearer understanding of how attention, focus, and everyday behaviours may be influencing life at home, at school, or in the workplace.
Through guided conversations, age-appropriate testing, and input from the people closest to you or your child, we aim to develop a clear picture of strengths and support needs, with the goal of offering clarity and practical direction moving forward.
What an ADHD Assessment Involves
Before committing to a full diagnostic assessment, it may be worth gaining some clarity on whether ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, or giftedness could be relevant to your experience.
Our process is designed to be thoughtful, staged, and transparent, helping families feel informed at every step, without unnecessary cost or overwhelm.
Discovery Call
A brief, no-pressure conversation to understand concerns, answer questions, and determine whether an assessment pathway may be appropriate.
Initial Screener Session
A detailed session covering screening measures, symptom evaluation, and discussion, designed to help clarify whether a full assessment may be indicated.
Comprehensive Assessment
This stage includes a clinical interview along with formal comprehensive assessments, with findings integrated into either a diagnostic letter or a comprehensive diagnostic report, both providing clear diagnostic conclusions and practical next steps.
Feedback Session
A dedicated session to walk through results, provide clear answers, and discuss practical recommendations and next steps.
This structured approach aims to give families professional guidance early and ensure a full assessment only proceeds when appropriate, supporting informed decision-making and meaningful outcomes.

Helpful ADHD Assessment Questions Answered
What kind of psychologists do you have on staff?
At PsychWell, our team includes experienced senior, clinical, educational, and developmental psychologists who aim to offer thoughtful, evidence-informed care tailored to each person’s individual needs.
How much time does an ADHD assessment take?
An ADHD assessment usually takes a few hours. It includes an initial consultation, a clinical interview, and comprehensive questionnaires. This gives us the time to build a clear and compassionate understanding of your cognitive profile, executive functioning, and daily experiences.
Do I need a referral to book in for an assessment?
You don’t need a GP referral to book an assessment at our psychology clinic. However, some people choose to involve their GP or psychiatrist as part of their broader mental health planning.
What input do you need from parents or teachers?
We may draw on insights from parents, teachers, or caregivers to understand developmental milestones, attention issues, impulse control, time management, and environmental factors that may influence a young person’s life at home or school.
How accurate are ADHD assessments for adults and teenagers?
When carried out by experienced clinical psychologists, ADHD assessments for teenagers and adults provide reliable insight into ADHD symptoms and attention span, and also look at executive functioning and how ADHD may affect different areas of a person’s life.
Will my report be recognised by schools, GPs, or psychiatrists?
Yes. Our reports are recognised across Australia by schools, GPs, psychiatrists, and other services, offering clear guidance on personalised treatment plans and therapy options, adult ADHD coaching, and ongoing management, as needed.
What are the options for treating ADHD?
After receiving an ADHD diagnosis, it’s natural to wonder what treatment may look like. Options vary from person to person and may include:
- Psychological support
- Cognitive training
- ADHD coaching
- Therapy
Some clients, including adults with ADHD, may also explore medication or medication management with a GP or psychiatrist.
What is the difference between a neurodevelopmental screener and a diagnostic assessment?
Our comprehensive initial consultation includes a neurodevelopmental screener, which helps identify whether your experiences and symptoms may be consistent with ADHD. While a screener does not provide a formal diagnosis, it helps determine whether a full assessment is recommended.
A full diagnostic assessment, on the other hand, is a comprehensive evaluation. It includes a detailed clinical interview, comprehensive tests, and a review of developmental, educational, and functional history. Depending on the presentation, it may also include cognitive or executive function testing. The findings are then compiled into a detailed written report.
Why is a full report helpful?
A full diagnostic report offers:
- A formal diagnosis, where criteria are met
- Clear documentation outlining strengths, challenges, and functional impacts
- Supporting evidence for NDIS, workplace, or educational support
- Practical, tailored recommendations for strategies, treatment, or next steps
A full assessment aims to provide a clear understanding of your needs and the support that may help you live well.
